“In one hand I have a Bible, and in the other a pistol,” the Communist guard said, taunting Salvation Army Commissioner Herbert Lord. “I despise your God. Let me see you prove His power. Pray to Him to tell you which hand holds the Bible and which the gun. If you are wrong, I will kill you.” Lord lowered his head. “Have you prayed?” the guard asked. “Which hand did your God tell you?” “I did not ask,” the Christian said. “For two things only I prayed: that God help me keep my temper and for strength to die decently.” The guard’s face twisted in anger as he took aim with his gun. Then, frustrated, he turned away.
